Remembering Dr. King

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

how far have we come?

1955: Rosa Parks was arrested when she refused to give up her bus seat to a white man. Parks’ arrest sparked an outcry from Montgomery’s African-American community and King led them in protest.

1966: James Meredith, the first black man to brave the colour bar at the University of Mississippi, was shot and wounded after entering Mississippi on a civil rights march.

April 4, 1968: MLK shot dead

40 years later ...

We have a woman and a non-Caucasian male running for president.
We have minorities holding important positions in society and government.
If that isn't progress I don't know what is... I think Dr. King would be very pleased in terms of the political progress made by minorities and to some extend how we have come together. But there is far much more to be done on a social/human/global level, so we must continue the "dream" by participating in community service activities and engaging other ethnic groups thus enriching each other's cultures and breaking barriers.

Unarguably, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and John F. Kennedy have been the best leaders with capacity to bring people together that this country has ever seen. It is intriguing they were victims of assassinations, both 'til this day, shrouded in a cloud of mystery.
